The Crossroads of 2017

In early 2017, I found myself standing at one of life’s most challenging crossroads. Before me lay two paths: continue in a job I genuinely loved, or leap into the unknown to create something unprecedented. This wasn’t just a career decision—it was a lesson in opportunity cost that would define the next eight years of my life.

The trouble with dreams is that they demand sacrifice. I had to choose between the security of a fulfilling job and the distant, uncertain promise of building something entirely my own. In that moment of truth, I made a decision that would test every fiber of my being: I chose to make my beloved job my opportunity cost.

The Wilderness Years: 2017-2023

What followed was a masterclass in resilience, failure, and stubborn persistence. From 2017 to 2023, I became a student of the market, watching every trend, understanding every competitor, and dissecting every nuance of the business landscape. This wasn’t glamorous work—it was the unglamorous reality of entrepreneurship.

The Many Hats of a Founder

During those formative years, I wore every hat imaginable:

  • Night-shift student: Learning new software after business hours because daylight belonged to clients
  • Chief everything officer: Running errands like a peon while strategizing like a CEO
  • Team builder and rebuilder: Scaling a team to six people, only to watch it crumble
  • Master of pivot: Failing, getting up, changing direction, and failing again

The cycle became almost rhythmic—pivot, fail, pivot, fail. Lost clients before onboarding even began. Lost clients mid-project. Lost faith, found it again, and lost it once more.

The Breakthrough: Finding the Invisible Problem

By 2023, something remarkable happened. Through all the failures, all the pivots, and all the late nights, I had identified something extraordinary: a problem that didn’t officially exist.

This wasn’t just a gap in the market—it was a chasm that everyone had learned to live with. The business community had collectively decided this issue was either non-existent or unsolvable. But I saw it clearly, and more importantly, I understood how to fix it.

The Trust Factor

Finding the problem was only half the battle. The real breakthrough came when I found clients who said those magical words: “We trust you.”

In a world of skepticism and due diligence, these clients offered something more precious than money—they offered faith. They allowed me to demonstrate what my thought process could accomplish, to show them solutions they didn’t even know they needed.

Birth of 21DEGREES Advisory Services

After eight years of building, failing, learning, and rebuilding, I had finally created something solid. Every detail was perfected, every process refined, every contingency planned. Only then did I take the formal step of registering 21DEGREES Advisory Services Private Limited.

Today marks our second birthday, and what a journey it’s been. From day one, this company has moved forward with unwavering momentum, never looking back, never second-guessing the foundation we built through years of trial and error.

Lessons from Grandfather’s Wisdom

My grandfather once told me, “A man of submissive nature cannot bear the insult.” Eight years later, I understand his wisdom completely. I am definitively not of submissive nature—the countless setbacks, rejections, and failures I’ve endured are proof enough of that resilience.

Every “no” became fuel. Every failure became education. Every closed door became motivation to build our own entrance.

The Team That Makes It Possible

Success in entrepreneurship isn’t a solo act. Today, as I watch my team at 21DEGREES enjoy celebration cake, I’m reminded of an important truth: the people who believe in your vision become the foundation of your success.

To my incredible team—thank you for tolerating my leadership style, for accepting my perfectionist tendencies, and for putting up with my occasional unreasonable demands. Your patience with my sometimes difficult nature has been the cornerstone of our growth.

The Virtual CFO Revolution

What we’ve built isn’t just another service company—it’s a virtual CFO service that clients can trust blindly. In an industry where faith is rare and skepticism is the default, we’ve created something unique: a company where trust isn’t earned through promises, but demonstrated through consistent, reliable results.

This is the power of spending eight years understanding not just what businesses need, but what they don’t even realize they’re missing.

Looking Forward

As we celebrate this second anniversary, I’m struck by the irony of opportunity cost. That job I loved—the one I gave up in 2017—was indeed the price I paid for this dream. But looking at where we are today, surrounded by a team that shares our vision and serves clients who trust us implicitly, I know I made the right choice.

The entrepreneur’s journey isn’t about avoiding failure—it’s about failing forward, learning from each setback, and building something stronger each time you rise. Today, 21DEGREES Advisory Services stands as proof that sometimes the best opportunities are disguised as the problems everyone else chooses to ignore.

Here’s to the next chapter, to continued growth, and to solving problems that others don’t even know exist yet. Happy 2nd Anniversary, 21DEGREES!
